Course intro

Welcome to the Neo-Cypherpunk Movement

The internet was meant to set us free.
Instead, it watches, measures, and sells us.

But a new generation is changing that , artists, builders, activists, and dreamers who believe privacy isn’t a retreat from the world, it’s a way to rebuild it.

Neo-Cypherpunk is the name of this shift.
It’s a remix of classic cypherpunk ideals, privacy, autonomy, open-source, infused with today’s culture of collaboration, care, and creativity.

We encrypt not to hide, but to connect. Neo-Cypherpunk isn’t gloom and doom it’s joy, collaboration, and conscious use of tech. We don’t escape the system; we dance through it. We code, write, draw, and build because freedom is a collective project.

This movement isn’t built on fear. It’s built on joy, curiosity, and the celebration of freedom

“Every era must choose what technology stands for: control or freedom. The first cypherpunks chose freedom, and the choice still stands before us.”

Inspired by Steven Levy, Crypto Rebels (1993)

That struggle never ended, it only evolved.

From mailing-list activists to Ethereum builders, from cryptographers to open-source educators, the fight for digital freedom continues, now with new tools, new values, and new faces.

“Not just coders, but writers, artists, lawyers, designers, and activists, everyone defending autonomy together.” - Paul Dylan-Ennis

This new movement doesn’t discriminate by technology, it embraces all levels of Neo-Cypherpunk maturity, from curious newcomers to seasoned practitioners.

Neo-Cypherpunks believe in:

  • Transparency for the powerful.

  • Conscious use of technology.

  • Mutual aid, not ego.

  • Freedom through care.

This isn’t nostalgia for the 1990s, it’s a renaissance.

From Vitalik’s call to “Make Ethereum Cypherpunk Again” to the rise of privacy-first communities, the movement is back, smarter, broader, and beautifully weird.

And you’re already part of it, even if you didn’t know the name.
