Lesson 3 – Principle 1: Permissionless Access
No gatekeepers. No exceptions.
A true DeFi protocol should be open to anyone, anywhere no sign-ups, no approvals, no discrimination. That’s what makes Ethereum global and unstoppable.
When gatekeepers appear asking for KYC, blocking countries, or restricting wallets what you’re using isn’t DeFi anymore. It’s CeFi in disguise.
Examples:
- ✅ Uniswap -> anyone can swap, no permission.
- ❌ Centralized exchanges -> block users, require ID.
Reflection Prompt:
Could anyone in the world use your favorite protocol?
Scoring:
- 0 = requires permission/KYC
- 1 = partly open, with restrictions
- 2 = fully permissionless
